Waltham Pocket Watches for Sale If you are looking to purchase a watch from this manufacturer then there are a number of places where you will be able to find them. I always find the best place to be physical auction rooms in remote places. Here you can usually avoid avid collectors who will always push the price up.
If you are lucky enough to do that then you can sneak under the radar and pick these up for a low price. There is of course always eBay who sell a lot of these watches but you do need to exercise great care as I have seen quite a number of suspect Waltham watches on there. Personally I would only buy one here if there was some proof of authentication. Amazon also do a selection of watches and there are a few other random sites that also sell these which you can find by doing a simple search around the Internet.
Always be wary before parting with any money and I would never do this unless there is some type of proof of authentication.

A Hamilton US military “general purpose” watch from In keeping with similar watches of this type, the dial bears the “H3” mark which I think signifies the use of Tritium in the luminescent compound and the Radiation tri-foil symbol. The back of the watch bears the relevant military specification, part number and date information, together with the instruction that it should be disposed of as “radiation waste”.
This watch has an interesting life story! As I understand it, it was procured, along with many other watches, by the British MoD in the ‘s and was evaluated at Herstmonceux Castle at that time owned by the Admiralty for potential military use.

Clocks could be impressive showpieces to demonstrate skilled craftsmanship, or less expensive, mass-produced items for domestic use. The escapement in particular was an important factor affecting the clock’s accuracy, so many different mechanisms were tried.
Spring-driven clocks appeared during the 15th century, although they are often erroneously credited to Nuremberg watchmaker Peter Henlein or Henle, or Hele around This resulted in the invention of the stackfreed and the fusee in the 15th century, and many other innovations, down to the invention of the modern going barrel in Early clock dials did not indicate minutes and seconds. A clock with a dial indicating minutes was illustrated in a manuscript by Paulus Almanus, and some 15th-century clocks in Germany indicated minutes and seconds.
Some of the more basic table clocks have only one time-keeping hand, with the dial between the hour markers being divided into four equal parts making the clocks readable to the nearest 15 minutes. Other clocks were exhibitions of craftsmanship and skill, incorporating astronomical indicators and musical movements. The next development in accuracy occurred after with the invention of the pendulum clock.

The last Elgin movement made in America was produced in In between, pinning an individual Elgin down to a specific year and model can be a bit of a chore. Starting around , Elgin used model numbers to identify unique case designs. In the s, the use of model numbers was supplemented by individual model names. The model numbers remained, however, and are the key to finding replacement parts for Elgins of the period. Identification of a watch is a process, typically done as follows: First, establish that the watch is, in fact an Elgin.
Second, attempt to identify the model by matching the case to known examples or to identification resources. If that fails, identify and date the movement to narrow your search and try again to identify the case. We look at each of these issues, below. Is it really an Elgin? The case back can also provide insight into the manufacturer.

See this post for details. An LWC movement showing the serial number under the dial dated to Are very difficult, as far as I know production records are only available for the Lancashire Watch Company and those that are not accessible.
